Wyldewood and Bob Gordon Elderberry
Cuttings
Our premium organic elderberry cuttings are taken from mature, dormant hardwood plants. Each cutting is hand cut at approximately a 45 degree angle, enabling additional surface area for nutrients and water to feed your plants. It also enables easier planting success, as the angled end will be pushed into the soil about 2 inches above the lower set of buds. The second bud set is closer to the top of the cutting and the very top will be flat. Shortly after harvesting, each cutting is rinsed in an organically approved sanitizer, and then transferred through an additional clean water bathe. Allowing drying slightly each cutting is carefully dipped into dormant oil, thus protecting your plants from mites commonly found in elderberry farms. Bob Gorgon Elderberry plants are hardy and easy to grow full sun hardwood shrubs that easily reach 5 to 6 feet in height, with a deep root system that aid in preventing soil displacement or erosion. You’ll find this variety to offer superior fruit quality, blooming in the spring and summer with up to 1’ across flowering heads. Fruit produced are extra sweet and a great selection for winemakers because of its high BRIX rating.

The Bob Gordon strain of elderberry was originally found in Missouri and was also included in the University of Missouri-Columbia “Elderberry Improvement Project”. In the study it ranked as the highest producer per acre. They are one of the earliest and longest flowering of the elderberry varieties within the University of Missouri study.

Additionally, we suggest Bob Gordon’s be cross-pollinate. At our farm we plant them in conjunction with the Wyldewood variety. The heads of this variety grow with the clusters down and are not as likely to become victim to bird predation. Growth in the USDA Hardiness zone number of 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10.

You’ll find this variety to offer superior fruit quality, blooming in the summer with up to 1’ across flowering heads.

The Wyldewood strain of elderberry was originally found in Oklahoma, and donated to the University of Missouri-Columbia for the “Elderberry Improvement Project”. In the study it ranked second as a producer, offering the potential of up to 12,000 pounds per acre yield. They are one of the earliest and longest flowering of the elderberry varieties within the University of Missouri study.

Additionally, we suggest Wyldewood be cross-pollinated. At our farm we plant them in conjunction with the Bob Gordon variety. The heads of this variety grow with the heads up. However, no need to fret, as there growth potential is excellent. Growth in the USDA Hardiness zone number of 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10.
